Laying Instructions  DownloadDownload PDF Techincal Specs

Step 1

A pallet can carry up to 20 boxes. To prevent damage, 2 pallets should never be stacked on top of each other. There is a batch number on every box. Before fitting, check that the tiles are from the same batch. It is important that batch numbers are not mixed within an installation in view of slight colour variations which may occur from batch to batch.

Step 2

To ensure optimal conditioning of tile backings, the temperature for fitting must be between 10°C and 25°C , at a relative air humidity of approximately 60%. The tiles should be removed from their outer boxes and laid loosely on the floor for 24 hours before laying so that they can become conditioned to room temperature guaranteeing stability.

Step 3

NB:Recommended Adhesives for Heritage Carpet Tiles:

For PVC or Latex Backed carpet tiles: Nuplex RMA 86 or, Mapei Ultrabond Ecofix
For Ecobac and Bitumen Backed carpet tiles: Mapei Ultrabond Ecofix or, Nuplex Super 7

Heritage Carpets will support and warranty any installation using the recommended adhesives, and following proper installation methodology.

There is an arrow on the back of each tile which indicates pile direction. If laid broadloom or half-bond style, all the tiles should be laid with the arrows pointing in the same direction (diagrams 1 and 3). If laid checkerboard style the arrows should be at 90 degrees to the adjacent tile. (see diagram 2) Start laying with a full tile laid at the door, continuing to the middle of the room in parallel with the main wall (see diagram).

Make sure that no pile material is trapped between the tiles. This central point is a starting point for the gradual placement of the other pieces. It is necessary to use good pressure when placing the tiles.

Step 4

The tiles can be placed in different ways:

Broadloom
/ Straight Line

All the arrows point in the same direction

Checkerboard
/ Quarter Turn

Arrows at 90 degrees to each other

Half-bond
Every row is moved up half a row from the previous one (so that 4 corners never meet)

Installation of Carpet Tiles – Straight Line vs Quarter Turn

The pattern on some carpet tiles allows them to be laid either using “Straight Line” method or by “Quarter Turn” method. The pattern on other carpet tiles is such that they can only be laid “Quarter Turn” Each one of our sample folders states the recommended laying method. Contact our office if any uncertainty exists. Kindly follow this to avoid any complications

Step 5

Lastly, the edges are finished:

  • Place the tile to be cut (2) on the tile laid last
  • Slide a third tile (3) against the wall
  • Cut the tile to be placed (2) along the edge of (3)
  • Place the cut tile (2) against the wall

Step 6

The tiles can be laid without adhesive, but in doorways and for offices and other heavy-wear installations we recommend the use of a tackifier adhesive.

Regular vacuum-cleaning will help maintain the appearance of the tiles. Never use solvents (white spirit, petrol, etc.), as they can affect the colour.

Carpet Tile Maintenance DownloadDownload PDF Techincal Specs

  • Sensible precautions and educated planning are important for perfect maintenance. Appropriate selection of colours along with Effective entry mats to remove dirt , are of major importance for keeping carpet in good condition.

  • A carefully-planned and executed cleaning program must focus on critical areas such as transit areas between hard floors and broadloom carpet, corridors and high traffic areas.

  • Daily vacuum-cleaning and regular stain removal are the first steps.

  • Another aspect of a well planned cleaning programme is the treatment with a dry powder system. This should be followed by periodical vacuum cleaning of the total surface.

  • For complete renovation, once per year , the carpet should be cleaned with a spray-extraction machine , making sure however that the carpet is thorougly rinsed, in order to remove detergent residues (if any) which could cause resoiling.

Therefore:

  1. Soil Containment - isolation of soil entering the building using mats at entrances
  2. Vaccuming - scheduled frequency for removal of dry soil using a suitable brush vaccum cleaner.
  3. Sport and Spill Removal System - using professional spot removal techniques.
  4. Interim Cleaning - scheduled frequency appearance cleaning for all traffic areas.
  5. Restorative Cleaing - scheduled frequency deep cleaning to remove residues and trapped soils.
