WORKPLACE

Anthony Harper Law offices, Central Auckland:

The NZIA, during the recent judging for the 2024 Architecture Awards, said of Wingate’s design that, “materials have been used creatively and to great effect.”

The design team needed to reflect the non-hierarchical culture of the firm, within the constraints of a deep floor plate with views at one end.

The curve of the building envelope was reflected throughout the interior design, including modulyss carpet tiles cut and laid with sweeping edges to delineate zones and accessways. The soft, shifting patterns of DSGN Cloud introduce a biophilic aspect to the space, inspired, as they are, by nature’s patterns and moods.

HB Central by WaM with modulyss Gleam

HB Central, Queen and Lorne Streets, Auckland:

This stunning preservation, connection and repurpose of two heritage buildings in central Auckland offers retail and hospitality at street level, with five office floors above. These levels include social hubs, workspaces and offices.

In the quiet spaces, the interior design team selected Gleam, a luxe cut pile carpet tile with a seamless look.  The practicality of under-foot comfort and acoustic dampening plus the softer, more residential aesthetic of cut-pile contrasts the materiality elsewhere in the spaces. The result is a timeless sophistication befitting the context of the heritage architecture.

EDUCATION

Ngākōroa Primary School, South Auckland:

Jasmax are masters in design for education. Sibling schools Mangapikopiko and Ngākōroa Primary were co-designed under commission by the Ministry of Education, striving to set a benchmark for enhanced and inclusive learning and teaching experiences, as well as connecting to the community with respect for the cultural identity of the mana whenua. Alongside this directive, the design for these two new schools was, in essence, replicated to provide tangible cost savings.

Onehunga Primary School, One Tree Hill, Auckland:

Onehunga Primary School creates an efficient footprint, with a remarkable 3 learning levels above a level for cars (unusually tall for New Zealand primary schools). Accommodating flexibility and future-proofing for an expanding role were key components of the design.

Using Millennium Nxtgen commercial carpet tiles on the floor across all these schools allows for consistency of design, yet individuality with 36 colours to select from.

Important prerequisites for carpet selections included sustainability, durability and budget.
